This webpage has a lot about the Sultana and a story about the Sulphur
Springs Trestle Battle where a lot of the Ninth Indiana Cavalry was
captured and sent to Cabaha Prison before the war ended, then they
boarded the Sultana to go home.
The webpage has a new webmaster and some of it is under construction if
the story is no longer there I can send it to you.

About ten years ago, BSU had a book on the life of Carrie Nation. If I
recall correctly, it gave her parents names and possibly her paternal
grandparents. It was a most interesting book about her life and the
struggles of the family during the Civl War.

Can someone please tell me if the below book is for sale? If it is do you
know how much it costs and where it can be obtained?

Thanks Kelly!
If you need more information on the kids, let me know. Don't remember
where I got it, but I have quite a bit of birth dates, etc. on them.
Love,
Marilyn
Hi Marilyn,
Thank you! The info on Enoch came from a bio on David Nation that
says....When the Civil War started in 1861 David and several of his brothers
answered the call to arms. He joined Company B of the 69th Indiana Infantry
as a Captain. His brother Enoch was a member of the 9th Indiana Cavalry and
was killed in the explosion of the Steamship SULTANA near Memphis, Tennessee
on
April 27, 1865.
Kelly
Kelly,
I have 13 children for Sophia & Enoch Nation:
Sampson
David A.
Mary E.
William
Susannah
Elizabeth Celia Ann
James Rariden
Rhoda

Enoch Thompson

Sarah K.
I'm curious, where did you find the information on Enoch dying on the
Sultana? I show he died in Memphis, TN on 4/27/1865. Is this where the
Sultana was?
Let me know if you need further information on these children.
Marilyn Barber
Hi Sarah,
Were your Thompson's in Delaware Co? I have over 70 Thompsons in my
file but none that match the names you gave.
Do you know who Jacobs father was? My line is through David Thompson & Mary
Swope, their son Robert Thompson & Matilda
Hutchison/Hutchinson, their daughter Mary Thompson & John Losh.

Absolutley! Muncie Indiana is in Delaware County and is located about 45
minutes north of Indianapolis. As a matter of fact, I just drove by there
today on my way home to Michigan from Indiana. I have been to the courthouse
and contacted the library. They are very helpful and nice people!
Good luck in your search.
Barbara
Kelly,
Wondering again if your Thompson line and mine don't cross after all! I
have a David F. Thompson and Enoch Thompson (b. 6 Mar 1834) who were
brothers. They were both sons of Jacob Thompson and Atlantie ??. Enoch was
m. to Margaret Aldridge. Is this the same as your line? If so, I also have
other children whose names I can share with you.

Does anyone have this book or have the picture of Nehemiah Burden and his

Hello,
I am updating my Thompson files and i am trying to find the
names of the parents for the world famous saloon smasher Carrie Amelia
(Moore) Gloyd Nation. Is there anyone on the list that has information
on the line of Sophia Thompson (daughter of David Thompson and Mary
Swope) and Enoch Nation? I only have two children for them, David
(husband of Carrie) and Enoch who was
killed in the explosion of the Steamship Sultana. Were there more
children?
Thank you,
Kelly
Kristie,
The Mayer I have was married to a Pittenger prior to her marriage to her
marriage to Nehemiah Burden. I have her father as John Pittenger. That is all
I have for now. I am really new into this line. Although my ancestor John
Burden and his family grew up in Indiana then to Iowa then to Kansas then to
Missiouri. Nehemiah Burden was my ancestor John Burden's brother.

Kath,
One of the surnames you have listed is MAYER. Is your line from Delaware
and Grant Counties in Indiana? I also live in Omaha (actually Offutt AFB),
but am from Indiana. Most of my family still lives in those counties, in
fact. My MAYER line were Belgian glassblowers who came over around the turn
of the century. Some of the men's names were Emile, Leon, Marcel, & Julian.
Does any of that sound familiar? Let's see if we can connect these lines..

Thank you all for clarifying that for me. You know how gedcoms are that you
download from the net, things dont always make sense. They had Mary Jane
Burden as being born in SC when she is clearly in a 1850 Delaware County
census as being born in Indiana. Also, I should have realized myself that
Muncie was in Indiana and not in Idaho as the gedcom said as all of the other
children were born in Indiana.
IM still trying to locate actual descendants of Nehemiah Burden and Margaret
Campbell. Here are some of the surnames within that line.
Bartlett, Burden, Byers, Campbell, Gunckel, DeHaven, Johnson, Newbolt,
Pittenger Mayer, DeVoss, Wasson, Wollaston

Do you have any dates on that picture of John Burden? I know that my Burden's
were in Delaware County and Randolph County abt 1840-1850ish.

Does anyone have any information on these people:
Ozra Crabill (born Dec. 1890 in Indiana)
Charlene Crabill (born Sept. 1893 in Indiana)
Listed as grandchildren & living with Issac & Mary Allison in 1900 Del. Cty
census.
Would be appreciative of any information you could provide.
Thank you.
Anne
