Hello!!
I would like to share with the list and to new members about a website
called Genealogy Look Up Forum. It is a website of volunteers who will
do various types of look ups in many states. The URL address is

to many people in their research.

The books your referring to are the WPA Books they have them for Marriage,
Birth, and death records.
They list the persons in alphabetical order by their last names. These
are the best help you could ever imagine.
I have several surnames copied from the WPA records. The WPA books can be
found at the following places
Health Department has both Birth and Death WPA books
Clerk of Courts (Where marriage lic. Are done has the WPA Marriage book)
The Delaware County Historical Alliance has all three (Birth,Death,Marriage)
Muncie Public Library has all three to.
Bracken Library at Ball State also has all three to.
Items you'll find in the WPA books are great. But note there were mistakes
for example, my great grandmother who was born 1904 as Bernice H. (Howe) we
could never find her birth certificate and she was born here. When she went
to get a copy of her birth certificate some years ago they could not find it.
So she had to prove who she was. Well, after looking in the WPA books for
births. Since her maiden name was Howe I thought maybe I should look under
Howell and sure enough there she was, how I knew it was her (birthdate was
exactly hers) plus her name was put in Bernice Howell born to George O. Howe
and Lavina (Smith). that was her and her parents they just spelled her name
wrong. SO when she looked for her certificate under Howe it wasn't there. So
check spellings.
WPA Books were done during the depression. People were hired to go to
counties and index the records.
Also the I accessed the WPA records online through I think it was
Genealogy.com and I have copied enough of the pages from the actual books
that I checked them against what was online and they are the same.
Hope this helps

Sybil according to the following it looks like the Death records and Birth
records at the Del.Co. Health Department date back to ca. 1882

Donata:
How far back do you suppose Registration records go? Are they housed in the County Clerk's Office at the Court House or at Bracken.
I have recently upgraded my PAF to version 5 and converted my files to that version. Well, I can't get PAF5 to prepare reports or exports. And now my version 4 won't read my document file. Talk about a rock and a hard place.
Has anyone figured out how to make reports in PAF5?

Sybil,
Well, I had not either till I helped my husband's cousin. And the time
span was more recent so I had the brain storm of hey what about Voter's
registration. Got to admit in our cause it was a good source. It helped me a
lot. I found her 80 some year old grandfather in less than a week. That was
cool.
So good luck.

Lou,
I did come across one thing in the Wills at Bracken Lib. for Delaware
County that might also prove to be of interest to other's.
I had went in a year or so ago and had them pull all the wills for the
surname of SHOCKLEY. (My husband's grandmother's maiden name.) Since I have
found so far that all the Shockley's in Delaware County all stem from a James
Shockley and Mary (Ogle). To my surprise I found in the early 1920s a
probate record for my husband's Grandmother and her sister. Well, I found it
interesting cause she wasn't born till 1919 so she was only about 2 or 3
years old. Their father Earl Shockley had suffocated in a boiler he was
cleaning (a fellow co worker was to be standing outside the boiler and open
the door to let him out but the guy had walked away and when he came back
Earl had been trapped inside). At any rate after his death this probate
record was named in his daughter's names. To make it short. His wife had to
show proof of all monies spent of his estate and guardianship of their
daughters. I found this totally wild since they were her daughters to. Just
goes to show you how times change. What was so weird that when I found this
was a year before my husband's grandmother and her sister died. And neither
of them ever knew this existed. I was able to show it to both of them before
their deaths.
Lou,
I found the nameless wife part very interesting. This could help in future
searches for me. Thanks.

Hi to the List,
I sent the following to a researcher in response to her simple query.
Something that I have never run acrossed is a mention of the fact that
there may be a will in an estate file that does not appear in the will books.
I have found this on two occasions of my husband's ancestor's estates, as
well as my step-father's. It appears from the first two cases mentioned,
the executor named in a will chose not to serve in that capacity or did not
qualify (was deceased, lived out of state...), an administrator was then
appointed, and reference is made in the administrator's report of the "will
attached" and was filed in the estate file, but not recorded in the "big"
book. Regarding my step-father's will, my mother was not mentioned in his
will, even though they had been married for 25 years. He was senile the last
five years and died at the age of 97. He wanted to leave everything to his
"unattentive" children who lived out of state (a fact, not meaning to being
derisive). A step-son by his former marriage was named as executor in the
will. The attorney advised him that my mother, according to law as the
surviving spouse, was entitled to $10,000 off the top, regardless of the
will, and if the will was probated, my mother could break the will, in which
case she would then (also?) be entitled to 1/3 of the estate. The attorney
suggested not probating the will, if all of the legatees would agree to this,
then disposing of the balance of the estate according to the terms of the
will. If they could not agree, the will would be probated, and court costs
and attorney's fees contesting the will could deplete the estate. All agreed
not to probate the will.
Another point I would like to make is that on more than one occasion,
even though the will had been recorded, it was not included in the index to
the book!
Then another point, a husband mentions "his dearly beloved wife" who is
nameless, and you wished he had given her a name. Well, generally speaking,
immediately following the recorded will is an "election of the widow" to
accept the terms of the will, which gives her name, however, this "election"
may have been recorded following the recording of several other wills in
between, and generally speaking again, this "election" does not appear in the
index in the "big" book.
I wondered if any of you have encountered these points, or if you have
anything additional to add that you have encountered.
Lou in Indiana
Kelly,
Marilyn here. I finally found Otto Sharp's middle name. It's
Millard. I recently received their death certificates from Ohio.
Let me know if you need further information on them.
Marilyn
Kelly,
Thank you. I'll file this and try to make the connection to my Grant Isanogle.
Does anyone know who the parents, grandparents, etc of this Gerald Isanogle were?

Hi Sarah,
I was trying to add some missing info in my gedcom, and they were
in it. Actually i am only related to Catherine Cora Stradling through her
husband Otto M. Sharp. Its odd you mentioned the name Thompson, do you know who
Frank Thompsons parents were or if he is connected to David Thompson and Mary
Swope? They are my 5th g-gr-parents.
BTW: Shirley if you are reading this, there are also Isanogle in the David
Thompson and Mary Swope line.

Yes, Kelly, they are brothers. William is my line. His daughter Kate Cora
Stradling Sharp is my great-grandmother. You have probably seen the bio on
Otto Sharp who is her husband.
