Hello all just thought I would comment here on the Delaware Co.
Photographers.
My Great grandpa was Raymond Augusta Taylor b.1902 Del.Co.In. d.1981 he
worked for years
at the Peoples Studio he was not a photographer but he did work in
developing the film
He worked at Peoples when it was in the location where the New Horizon
center is now on the alley
back behind where the old Post office was on Charles Street and across
the street from the Radisson Hotel.
Then Peoples moved to another location downtown at Walnut and I believe
it's Adams Street. He also
continued to work there. I have a (well my mom) has a photo of him in
the Camera Shop. The owner of
Peoples was Dick I can't remember his last name to save my sole.
Just thought I would add this. I know it's not exactly what your
looking for but is a little on
one of the studios here in Muncie.

Joan,
My husband, Harold V. Smith, worked for several years at Jack's Camera
Shop in Muncie, and was one of the staff photographer's for the Muncie
Newspapers from 1958-1962, plus some selected summers after graduation
when he wasn't teaching school. He remembers the following who worked
with him:
William D. (Bill) Jameson, who was the head of the photography section
Warren Montano
John Weisner
During the mid-1800's one of the members of the better known Neely
family, who lived in the city, was a photography, but I cannot recall his
first name to save me. Harold has a Neeley (note spelling difference)
connection and when I was researching it, I found this Neely photographer.
Darn, I wish could remember his name. The information is in the BSU
special collections.
You might also want to correspond with Dr. Dwight Hoover who has done at
least on good book about Muncie which is almost totally pictures. It's
called, I believe, "Magic Middletown" and it's pictures are mostly by
a well known photographer in Muncie in the 1920's. Once again, I can't
recall the name. The BSU sp. coll. might be helpful here again too.
I hope you will share your information with the list...it would be very
helpful, especially to those try to date photographs with the
photographers name on them...but also just for those of us who are
interested in the history of Delaware County.
I should also add that Ball State had/has? it's own News Bureau and
Marie Fraiser headed it for many years. They did all the photography for
the theatre when I was in college, so perhaps that would be another lead.
Sorry this has gone on so long...as I typed more memories were triggered!

>I am searching for Norah Ella Love born in Delaware Co in 1858. She
married Isaac N Perry in 1891 in Wells Co IN. Norah died in 1898 in Wells CO
IN. I have no parents for her. I'm am wondering if she was married before
since she was nearly 30 when she married Isaac but I have nothing to prove
or disprove this idea. The marriage license says it's her first marriage,
but???? Actually this is about all I know about her. Any help would be great!

I am compiling a directory of Indiana photographers, 1840-1940, and would
like to correspond with others who might have similar interests. The
directory (due to be published in about 3-4 years) will list biographical
information (birth and death dates and places; names of parents, spouses,
and children; education; other occupations; professional affiliations) as
well as studio information (names, locations, and dates of all studios).
I'm looking for additional information about Delaware County photographers,

If there is interest, I would be glad to post my list to this listserve.

Hi Yes Damon's site is a good one.
What I did was, in 1996, go to every cemetery in Delaware County and
update and correct the indexes that had been done. I then put it into a
book. It includes all, but Elme Ridge and Beech Grove, nad Gardens of
Memory. I was going to do a Book Two, but it would be a life long task.
There are about 150,000 burials in those 3 cemetery's. I did stone
reading and used Interrment records when available.
Shawn
Linda,
I am a direct descendant of Eleanor "Nellie" Brown Shaw (mother of Ollie?).
Nellie is daughter of my gg grandfather, William Brown, and his first wife.
Wife unknown to me. Jemima's father is Samuel Brown? believed to be Wm's
brother and Rachel is daughter of my Wm Brown and wife Mary Vanarsdol Brown.
I will be glad to send you copy of pages/sigs. I'm hoping we can share some
info as well.

Joan,
This is not in relationship to Delaware County, but in Madison County in the
late 1800-early 1900 era, Cicero Reeves was quite a photographer.
In Brown County, there are two notables. One is Otto Ping (used an early box
camera) and the other is Frank M Hohenberger. In case you are not aware of
it, much of Hohenberger's work (400 of his photographs) have been recorded and
accessed on the IU Digital Library Web site at
http://www.hohenberger/index.html. The Brown County Library in Nashville
also has quite a display in their basement.
Good Luck in your project.

I have some affidavits and depositions dated 1891-1893-1895 with signatures
of those who signed or attested to an X signature person's identity. I'd be
glad to send a copy of your ancestor's signature (and the page), if you're
into collecting sigs. Sometimes the signature is the only "living,
breathing" thing left behind for an ancestor. These folks lived in Delaware
County, Indiana: Robert FRAIZER, John WEAVER, Jemima Brown WEAVER, Emmeriah
TRIPLETT, Ollie Shaw OGLE, Christopher BROWN, E. B. TYLER, John LINVILLE,
Jane RECTOR, Cassius M. RECTOR, M. E. BROWN (d-in-law of Charles Brown),
Mary E. HODSON, William HODSON, Hiram H DARTER (attny), John L. TAYLOR
(noted as Rev), Lillie SITES, John T. FULLHART, Rachel Brown JOHNSON,
Valentine SHOCKLEY.

I sure would appreciate your offer on copies. Would like copy of Ollie Shaw,
Jemmia Brown and Rachel Brown. Thanks so much!!!!!! Linda Shaw
