Archibald D. Frets, proprietor of the Frets monument works at Mount Vernon, was born in
Waterloo, Indiana, 3/13/1875. His parents were George and Katherine (Mortoriff) Smith, but
at the age of 6 months he was taken by Daniel and Rebecca (Wyrick) Frets, who reared him.

George B. Phelps, the son of Andrew J. and Caroline C. (Wyrick) Phelps was born 9/17/1871.
Andrew J. Phelps had come to Indiana in 1853, from New York state, and in Miami county he
passed the remainder of his life, death claiming him in 1897. His widow still survives, as
do their 5 sons. Mrs. Phelps is the daughter of Jacob Wyrick, one of the very earliest
pioneers of DeKalb County.
