There is another history of Dekalb County written in the 1980s by a local
historian John Martin Smith. It is in 2 or 3 volumes and the last volume has
family information volunteered by local families.
The Willenar Library is your first and best stop to do genealogy work in Dekalb
County. The director is Gregg Williamson. You can call there if you like and ask
general questions over the phone. Volunteers and employees are there to help. I
live in DeKalb County and am very happy with this resource in the county. It
also has free access to
ancestry.com and another similar website.
This is the Willenar website:

Make sure you pay attention to the hours of operation. I sometimes forget and go
there when it is closed - closed Sundays, Mondays and Wednesday mornings.
Also if you are coming from far away, I suggest that you also visit the Allen
County Public library in downtown Fort Wayne, about 20 miles from the Willenar.
It has one of the top rated genealogy libraries in the United States:

Thanks so much for checking for me. I have checked the sites that you included
in your response, to no avail. I'll keep hunting. Are you from DeKalb Co? How
easy (or difficult)is it to do research there and where might I have the best
resources for vital records? From what I'm seeing it looks like the William H.
Willennar Genealogy Center may be worth a little time. What do you think? Ever
been there?
