Hello all,
I'm sure that any of you who have recently checked out the web page for DeKalb
County, IN are aware that we are working to get the 1850 census online. You
can now find Butler and Troy Townships at that site. Our goal is to
eventually have all the DeKalb Townships online there.
However, Auburn, Concord, Jackson and Newville Townships are also online - but
at this point they're just not as easy to find. If you're interested, you
might check out the following web site addresses:
For the DeKalb County Indiana Archives try
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/in/dekalb/dekalb.htm
You will find Concord Township, parts 1 & 2, there, as well as Butler and Troy
Townships.
For the USGENWEB on-line census project for Indiana try
http://www.usgenweb.org/census/states/indiana.htm
This site lists all the Indiana counties for each of the census years and
whether or not they have been assigned for transcription. If you are
interested in helping transcribe census records, this is also where you should
go to choose the county and year you wish to work on. Other states besides
Indiana are also available.
Scroll down to the 1850 list, DeKalb County. In the space before my name you
will see a box with "USGENWEB Census Project Butler/Troy/Concord". If you
click on this box it will take you to an ftp index. I don't know if all
computer programs will support reading ftp (as opposed to http) files. Each
item in the index indicates a separate township (Concord has 2 since it was
split into 2 parts) as follows:
pg0188b.txt = Butler
pg0196b.txt = Troy
pg0201b.txt = Newville
pg0206b.txt = Auburn
pg0270b.txt = Concord, Part 1
pg0282b.txt = Concord, Part 2
pg0283b.tx = Jackson
We hope you enjoy looking around. If you have any questions feel free to e-
mail me. I'll respond as soon as I can.
