there a way to fix this? >>
Yes, it's a very easy fix. Open the document in Notepad, enlarge the page to
fit your screen, then cut each line shorter by hitting the enter key at the
end of each line. You'll also have to bring some parts of lines back up, to
format it nicer. It's easy when you get used to it though. You just hit the
enter key wherever you want the line to end.
When you do a document in a word processor type program (microsoft works etc)
it automatically wraps the lines around....but when it's uploaded as text it
is most like Notepad.
Attached is a reformatted file of the methodist.txt file if you need it.

PS. I'm the coordinator for Lake County and do a LOT of obits, bios, etc in
this format so it comes easy to me now :)

METHODIST PROTESTANT CHURCHES.
The Methodist Protestant organization at St. Joe was brought into=20
existence in the year of 1886, and from those humble beginnings has=20
developed into a hustling and progressive society of one hundred=20
members. Rev. W. H. Lineberry was the pastor who assisted in organizing=20
the church. The church edifice was built in 1888, the same year as the=20
Disciples church. The building cost thirty-five hundred dollars. At this=20
writing, Rev. G. C. McCaslin is in charge of the society. The first=20
trustees were Frank Ingle, George Bleeks and Sol Barney. The Sunday=20
school, Ladies' Aid Society and Christian Endeavor add greatly to the=20
interest of the church. The Methodist Protestant society has small=20
churches at Concord and Fairview also. The Rehoboth Methodist Protestant=20
church was organized sometime in the year 1840, at the cabin-home of=20
Samuel Tarney. The charter members were: Amariah Johnson and wife,=20
Nathan Wyatt and wife, Abraham Johnson and wife, John Wyatt and wife,=20
William R. Moore and wife, Samuel Tarney and wife, William A. Squires=20
and wife, and Samuel Widney and wife. These sixteen persons constituted=20
the first church organization in Jackson township which was known as the=20
Bear Creek class. There being no church house, services were held at the=20
cabin-homes of the early settlers; for some time later the regular=20
services were held in a log schoolhouse located on the farm of Amariah=20
Johnson, now owned by William Johnson. Special meetings were either held=20
in the groves or at the double log barns of the settlers.
Some years later a church was built a short distance north of the log=20
school house. The building was a frame structure and was considered=20
quite elaborate at that early day. This church was known as the Bear=20
Creek church. Here services were held until the fall of 1881, when the=20
old church was considered unsafe and was abandoned. This old building=20
was the scene of many a gracious revival and many hearts were made happy=20
in a Savior's love. After abandoning the old church, the place of holding=20
services was at the Bear Creek schoolhouse, a half mile west. Under the=20
pastorate of the late Rev. F. M. Hussy, during the winter of 1881 and=20
1882, an effort was put forth for the erection of a new church house.=20
It was with some difficulty that a suitable location could be found.
It was finally decided to build on the site where the Rehoboth church=20
now stands, and the building was completed at a cost of twenty-one=20
hundred dollars. Owing to the difficulty in securing a location, Mr.=20
John S. Boots, one of the donors, thought that the proper name for the=20
church should be Rehoboth, and wished the honor of naming it, which=20
privilege was accorded him. In the fall of 1913, this church house=20
underwent repairs ot the extent of eight hundred dollars. To be in=20
keeping with the progress of the time, a basement has been put under=20
the church, a furnace and modern lighting system installed, and an=20
addition made.
The first religious service held in Jackson township was at the home=20
of William Watson in 1839, and the preacher was Rev. Jalnes T. Robe,=20
of the Methodist Episcopal denomination.
Rev. Lewis Hicklan, missionary of the Methodist Protestant church, came=20
to Jackson township in 1841, and organized a church. Today there are in=20
the township several churches: namely, Church of God, Methodist=20
Protestant and United Brethren.
