My great great grandfather, Henry Smith, moved to DeKalb County in 1841
with his wife Jane Shainholz Smith. Jane died in 1853 leaving 6 small
children, and Emeline E. Robinson (a young girl of 18) married Henry and
then subsequently bore six more children. Henry was presumably a
prominant citizen of DeKalb Co., and his farm "Lovely Dale" is portrayed
in the DeKalb Co. Atlas. The virtues of Emeline are noted in the
genealogy of the Smith family by John Martin Smith (a descendent of
Henry and Jane), but yet I can find little information on Emeline. She
married in 1853, and presumably was 18, and Henry is buried alone at
Eddy Cemetary (Jane is at Hamilton Cemetary). I know nothing about
where Emeline was born, nor where and when she died. I have found some
information on an Emeline Smith, but the death record that I found said
that her father was Sam Till (or Yill), and with being married at 18,
this does not sound like the right person.
I know that Emeline and Henry had one other son that lived to maturity
(other than my great grandfather) and this was Owen Elba Smith. I
believe that he married a Hattie Workman and had 2 daughters, but I know
nothing more of this line.
Does anyone have information on any of these folks? Any help would be
appreciated!
