An excellent question. My ancestors, Timothy & Martha M. (Swords) Caldwell
along with daughter & son-in-law William Rodarmer, made the move from Wayne
County Ohio to DeKalb County Indiana about 1855.
Sure would like to know the reason for the migration.

Message Board Post:
Does anyone have info on what appears to have been a rather large
migration of
families from Stark Co., OH to De Kalb Co., IN about 10 years
before the Civil War? While researching a couple of "brick walls" back in
Stark Co., OH I came across the connection to De Kalb Co., IN. I haven't
come across the two surnames that I am researching ( MOORE, MOHR, HAAK,
HOUK, HOUCH, HOUCK) but i have come across families that were their
neighbors. Is their any printed info on this migration? Is this the time
when the land in De Kalb was first put up for public sale? Why did they
leave Ohio and did they include my ancestors?
