GEORGE MITCHELL DEAD AT AGE OF 87.
Resident of Rt. 3, Auburn, was Retired Employee of B & O Railroad - Funeral Services
in Auburn.
George Mitchell, who resided most of his life in the Auburn area, died at the age of 87
years at his home on Rt. 3, Auburn, at 7:15 p.m. Friday.
Mr Mitchell had been ill with a complication of diseases for the past five years. He was
hospitalized for a few days at th Dr. Bonnell M. Souder hospital in Auburn last November.
He was born Feb. 28, 1870, in Convoy, O., the son of the late Jacob and Sarah Sheppard
Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell and Emma Davis were married in Auburn Sept. 25, 1889.
Surviving besides Mrs. Mitchell are three daughters, Mrs. Eva Guinn of Hudson, Mrs. Mina
Carper of Rt. 3 Auburn, and Mrs. Ellen McDonald, also of Rt. 3, Auburn; four sons, John
Mitchell of Altona, James Mitchell of Willard, O., Charley Mitchell of Rt. 3, Auburn, and
Harry Mitchell of Garrett; 42 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great
grandchildren.
Mr. Mitchell was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran church in Auburn. He was a
retired employee of the Baltimore & Ohio railroad and had done carpenter work before
his illness.
The body was removed to Dilgard & Cline funeral home in Auburn and will be taken to
the St. Mark's Lutheran church for services at 2 p.m. Monday. The pastor, Dr. Allan
Hauck, will officiate at the services and burial will be in Roselawn cemetery near
Auburn.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 o'clock tonight.

Widow Succumbs at Age of 87 Years
Mrs. Emma May Mitchell Dies at Auburn Junction a Month After Husband, George, Passed Away
Mrs. Emma May Mitchell, 87, widow of the late George Mitchell who died approximately one
month ago, succumbed to a complication of diseases at the home of a son and his family,
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Mitchell at Auburn Junction, about 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Mitchell
had been seriously ill for six weeks and was in failing health for several years. She was
dismissed from an Auburn hospital June 25 after being hospitalized for five weeks. She was
born in Auburn and resided in the community practically all of her lifetime. She was born
Feb. 24, 1870, the daughter of the late Joseph and Sophia Moyer Davis. On Sept. 25, 1889,
she and Mr. Mitchell were married. She was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran church
in Auburn. Surviving besides the son are three daughters, Mrs. Eva Guinn of Hudson, Mrs.
Mina Carper and Mrs. Ellen McDonald, both of Auburn Junction; three other sons, John of
Altona, James of Willard, O., and Harry of Garrett; 42 grandchildren; 67
great-grandchldren; and 1!
4 great-great grandchildren. The body was removed to the Dilgard & Cline funeral home
in Auburn where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Dr. Allan
Hauck, pastor of the St. Mark's Lutheran church in Auburn, officiating. Burial will be
in Roselawn cemetery, near Auburn.
