I am searching for information on my Abel family in DeKalb County. My
great-great grandfather was Freeman H. Abel. I don't know when he was born
or when he died, and I don't know where he is buried (but I suspect he was in
Michigan). Freeman married my gg-grandmother, Ella Kezia Kelly, on August
11, 1878 in Allen County, but I suspect that Freeman may have been from
DeKalb County. At some point, Freeman and Ella were in Astabula County,
Ohio, as their daughter, Lola, was born there.
Freeman and Ella had two children: Lola Leah Abel (my great-grandmother);
and Virginia A. Abel. Lola married Emanuel Myers in Allen County in 1905.
Virginia married John C. Bowen on November 1, 1896 in DeKalb County.
Virginia and John had the following children: Herbert Dewey; Bright Eyes;
Merlin Wallace; Violet Virginia; and Victor John. From what I've been able
to discover, they lived in St. Joe for a time, but Virginia died in 1919 and
is buried in Pontiac Michigan, so somewhere along the line she moved there.
I have no other information about John C. Bowen.
I believe Freeman may have a brother named Freemont Abel. I also believe his
father's name was John Abel, but that information has not been confirmed.
John Abel was apparently a Civil War veteran.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
