1850 nothing under Fretz, Fritz, Frets with Daniel and brother John living there Daniel
& John say parents b/PA checked PA, OH, IN for them. Since 1860 has Daniel & John
in IN you would think they would be there but nothing.
Daniel brother John Frets 1838/OH is listed as De Kalb county Civil War Vets with a bio
noting that their parents were George and Magdelena Frets. Brothers John 83rd IN Inf.,
Daniel 30th IN Inf., George 88th IN Inf. Samuel also in 30th IN inf.
1860 Richland, De Kalb Co., IN Daniel Fretz 1836/OH no occupation noted, Enos M. 1859/IN,
Rebecaa 1837/IN, John 1838/OH. (note spelled Fretz)
1870 Waterton, De Kalb Co. IN Daniel Fritz noted as RR hand, Rebeca 1837, Emily M.
(Eralay) 1860/IN, Beatrice M. 1861/IN, Adola 1863/IN and an Emma Merick age 18/IN. She
should be Rebecca sister but do not find Merick, Myrick anywere in IN in 1860? (note
spelled Fritz)
1880 Albany, Gentry Co. MO Daniel Fretz age 44 keeps hotel- says parents b/PA, Rebecca 42,
Beatrice 19, Dollie 17, David A 1875/IN (note spelled Fretz)
1900 Athens, Gentry Co., MO Daniel Frits 4/1836 farmer- notes parents were b/PA, Rebecca
11/1836 says had 3 ch 3 liv, Dollie Good 12/1863 says 3 ch 3 liv, Myrtle 7/1874 MO, Paul
8/1885 MO, Ruby 11/1887 IA (note spelled Frits)
1909 Daniel Frets died

(Please note the several different ways Daniel last name is spelled throughout his life.
He was buried and served in CW as Frets yet his obit and many census are even different.
Daniel Frits, aged 73 died yesterday at his late home, 2412 Broadway from a complication
of disorders brought on by advanced age, and will be buried from Jerread's chapel
tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 with Rev. H.O. Henderson officiating. The G.A.R. will take
charge of the ceremony at Evergreen cemetery, where their comrade is to be buried. The
deceased leaves two daughters and a son in Everett and another daughter in Colorado. (the
children would be Emma, Beatrice, Dollie and David A)
Please note the different spelling of Daniel last name- Frits, Fritz, Fretz, Frets. He
served in the 30th IN Inf. Co. H as Frets and received pension under that name in
1888/MO.
