I was notified of them a couple weeks ago by someone who did subscribe to
their "service" and noticed my URL on the page they were taken to. Luckily
she went to my site and emailed me to let me know of the goings on.
I also know that he was directing people to records that I and others
transcribed due to the fact that on his What's New page he had Lake County
Indiana Marriages listed (the county in which I am the GenWeb Volunteer) and
had the same typos as on my page:
http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/lkmar.htm
Notice the T surnames in Caps, and the other surnames are not. This is the
same way theyre listed on his what's new listings. Note: when you copy
someones work and try to make it look like your own....fix the typos!
He also has the northwest Indiana cemeteries that I and another woman
transcribed, problem is....he has them listed as Lake County Alabama!
I have a link site too, so I am not saying that someone shouldnt be able to
surf the web and categorize links as he has. But my site, having over 2200
links now, is totally free to access. Just like Cyndis List and 2000 other
genealogy link sites out there....all free to access the links to records.
Though some of the links you go to may be to pay-per-view record sites like
Ancestry.com, but theyre reputable sites with "content" worth your money!
My main beef was also that he is charging to access free records...and making
it look like theyre on HIS site. Many people who do genealogy online are
older and inexperienced with computers and internet....and this guy is
feeding off the fact that they don't know that they can view these records
for free.
Anyway, that's my $49.95 worth (yes, that's what he charges!)
