There definitely was a "County Farm," and I believe the building still exists,
yet the County Farm was just NE of Garrett and just NW of Auburn - not Butler. What I
think you may be referring to is "Butler Township" not the town of Butler and
the County Farm is definitely near Butler Township. Of course, there could have been
another County Farm in DeKalb County, but an old-timer would be best
The buildings appear to be here when I checked on Google maps, here are directions to the
DeKalb County Farm
COUNTY FARM S°25 T°34N R°12E N°41 22.972 W085 04.963
Take SR8 west from Auburn to CR19. Turn north for one mile to CR40. Turn east on CR40
for .8 mile to the DeKalb County Farm which is located on both sides of the road. The
abandoned private cemetery has no tombstones.
Could what you are referring to be the poor asylum in Butler Township?
Regards,
Mark

Are you thinking about the possibility of a County Poor Farm? These were
very numerous in the late 1800's and up until about 1950. This was an
operating farm where people down on their luck could go and obtain food &
lodging just for working on the farm.
