Vera Brown
LAKE OZARK, Mo. -- Vera Marguerite Brown, 102, died Saturday, June 16, 2007, in Osage
Beach, Mo.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ of Highland, Ill., and
worked as a secretary for the City of Highland. She also taught piano. She loved to work
with her hands in crafts, needlepoint, knitting and cross stitch.
She was born Aug. 14, 1904, in Auburn to Joseph Franklin Walter and Edith Maurer Walter.
She graduated from Auburn High School in 1922 and married Eugene W. Brown in Auburn in
1926.
She is survived by a son David of Lake Ozark, Mo, and a daughter Sue Drain of Rolling
Meadows, Ill.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a
sister-in-law, Valetta Bloom Walter of Fort Wayne; five nephews, James and Richard Lindley
of Wolcottville, Michael Walter of Auburn, Kenneth J. Walter of Fort Wayne and Timothy J.
Walter of Sullivans Island, S.C. A grandnephew, Kirk Schmidt of Fort Wayne, and two
grandnieces, Toni R. Knox and Terri L. Platter of Auburn, also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; three brothers, Dale, Carl and
Kenneth; two sisters, Bertha Laug and Dorothy Lindley; two nieces, Sue Schmidt of Fort
Wayne and Cynthia Traxler of Auburn; and a grandniece, Karen "Mitsi" Schmidt
Bishop of Fort Wayne.
Graveside services were held [at 11:00 a.m.,] Friday, June 22, at Woodlawn Cemetery in
Auburn. The Rev. Matt Tosten of Trier Ridge Community Church of God of Fort Wayne
officiated. Funeral arrangements were made by Hedges Funeral Home of Camdenton, Mo.
