Hello Loren
I have recently began helping a friend in trying to find documentation ccncerning his ancestors. Since Noragon is a rather unusual name I am hoping your families may connect. His information ends with Jacob Noragon, born about 1787, in Union county, PA. Jacob's son was Elias Noragon born 12 Nov 1824. Elias married Mary Ann Wagoner. Their son, Benjamin was the father of Adrian who was the father of Macie Donald Noragon born in Steuben county Indiana. Macie is the father of Michael Noragon, my friend. If any of these names are familair to you I would appreciate hearing from you and hopefully exchange information. Thank you.

Kathy,
This does not ram through the brick wall BUT . . .
In my data base is one Catharine DeVore, 1814 Ohio - 1897, daughter of John and Eva Devore. She married John B. Gonser in Ohio but they lived in DeKalb Co. IN from at least 1848 to sometime before 1860, when they moved to Iowa. At least there was someone else in the are with this surname.

Subject: [INDEKALB] Poor asylum and old folks home in Butler
Here's my skeleton and brick wall, all in one!
I'm wondering if anyone out there has more info on the poor asylum in DeKalb
county? I'm looking for information on Julia DeVore and her son James Moore
who were listed there at various times thru 1876-1880.
James Moore was my mom's grandfather, his mother was Julia Devore born about
1855.
Family "story" is that Julia came from a wealthy family in France, but that
she had gotten pregnant out of wedlock so they sent her to the US to 'save
the family name'. I dont buy it for a minute! James Moore's father is listed as
John Moore...not a French name. From what my mom recalls, he didn't speak
French...a young and alone mom just sent here, probably would've talked to her
small child in French. And the asylum records (on the Genweb site) list her
nationality as United States.
I think the whole story about the wealthy French family was to lighten the
blow on the 'bastard' child, which in his adult years, he admitted to being
quite often! There were a few John Moore's in DeKalb county, some even prominent
citizens...can't help but to wonder if one could be my gggrandfather!?
For Julia DeVore I can't find a birth, or death...she had to have died in
DeKalb county. Was she here in the 1860 or 1870 census?
James Albert Moore born 2 Mar 1872 at: Butler, DeKalb Co., IN
Also, does anyone know WHERE the asylum was...if so, would it have been in
Butler where the "old folks home" was that my mom went to in Butler? My mom
thought it would be so strange to find out that she had visited the place that
used to be the poor asylum that her grandfather basically grew up in.
She's 75 and would really like to solve the mystery of Julia Devore.
Kathy

Was it a typo to put James Albert Moore born in IN, or did you mean to type

Could this be the same Jesse Thomas that was married at one time to Elizabeth Goetschius? Do you know of any other children? I have a photo of Jesse Thomas and wife Elizabeth, and two sons, James and Will. I have not been able to locate them either.

It has been over a year since I sent a written request to the Courthouse in DeKalb Co, along with an SASE. No response was received. Did anyone else have the same experience with this place? If I don't receive a response I am going to have to write to the Indiana state Attorney General's office I fear.
