Hi Dick,
According to an entry on the Ancestry.com web site in their American Civil
War Soldiers web page, John Fiant resided in Auburn, Indiana and enlisted as
a Private on 13 August 1862 in Company A of the 100th Infantry Regiment in
Fort Wayne, Indiana. He mustered out of the same company and regiment on 08
June 1865 in Washington, D.C.
So we know he survived to that point. There are a few entries for him in
the various reports and lists on the DeKalb County INGenWeb Project under
both variant spellings of the surname. If you want to check those out, click
on the following link and enter the surname in the FreeFind Search engine -
http://www.rootsweb.com/~indekalb/index.html - and I will keep my eye out
for anything else that may give some suggestions on where to look next.
Sincerely,
Dan Terry

Dick,
I had particulary good success a few years ago in obtaining Civil War
information from the State of Indiana Commission on Public Records, 501
State Office Building, 100 North Senate, Indianapolis, 46204-2215.
My gr-grandfather had served in two of the "One Year Regiments", the 138th
and the 151st.
For a very reasonable copying fee, the Commission sent me a bundle of
information on my gr-grandfather's military service, the two regiments and
his later pension.
Hope are successful in your search.
Cheers,
Ron Hallberg

Yes, I did. Thanks again. I believe this Klimmer name could have been spelled Clemmer (Americanized). Would you mind if I asked you to check that spelling?
I took a real quick look at the 1870 and 1880 census and couldn't find them.
I'll have to check more thoroughly tonight when I get home from work.
THANK YOU!!!
Karen
Dear Arlene:
This is wonderful information! Thanks so very very much! I will write and try to get copies of the marriage and death certificate. Do you know if the County Clerk would have those.
Helen's death record said her middle name was Clemarse. If her mother's maiden name was Klimmer, either the informant was wrong or she changed it along the way I would guess.
Now I'm wondering if Mathia Klimmer died in DeKalb? I'll try to find him on the 1870 census.
Can't thank you enough!
Have a great day.
Karen
Good morning, The address for the Clerk's office is
P. O. Box 230 Auburn IN 46706
copies are $1.00 and Certified copys are $2.00
Our Death Records started in 1882, and I checked and
Mathia Klimmer wasn't in them.
Did you get both emails with information?
Arlene

Is anyone on the list familiar with the Charles Holsinger family?
Charles was born about 1851/1852 in Austria according to census records and
died 1921. He is buried in the Garrett Calvery Cemetery along with his wife
Anna Elizabeth (Clemarse?) b. 1865 in IN and died 1937.
I found the above information on the DeKalb GenWeb site.
I have also located him on the 1900, 1920 and Anna on the 1930 census.
I would like to locate Charles' and Anna Elizabeth's parents, their marriage
date, and also get photos of the tombstones.
Would appreciate some help!
Hope to hear from someone! Thanks so much!
Karen
