Just a note to let you know what I am working on at the moment!
On the Fourth of July, our family visited the Garrett Historical Museum, having never been there. If you have never been there also, and have roots in the area, you really should go! It is a fascinating place!
Although my roots in Garrett weren't planted until 1944 (Grandfather transferred in on the B & O RR ! ) I still find the history of the area interesting.
In the gift shop, among other things, I found a book titled
"So Grows A City"
an "Official Publication Of The Greater Garrett Centennial Corp." published in 1975.
This book has an extensive amount of information on the history of Garrett, and many of the early families of Butler and Keyser Twps. Some articles are brief, and others are extensive. The book is 100 pages, and also has photos. The cost was a mere $3.50 !!! I couldn't pass it up!
The one problem with the book, is that there is NO INDEX !
So, that is what I will be working on! I am creating an index of residents (including maiden names for females, when available)
PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR A LOOK UP, JUST YET!
As I stated, there is no index.
Once I have the index completed, I will post it on the list, and make it available for the website.
ONCE THE INDEX IS POSTED TO THE LIST, THEN I WILL DO LOOK UPS FOR YOU!
To speed the process, I am only indexing the residents, so hopefully, I would like to have it done by the end of the month.
Thanks for your patience, and hopefully I can help someone out!
Karl
I had the same problem of trying to place the townships within DeKalb
County. If I remember correctly I was directed to the County Engineers
Office where I bought a nice map. This office was not in the Court House
but near the edge of town, if I remember correctly.
I hope this helps you to locate a useful County Map of DeKalb County.

Karl,
I guess what I'm trying to get is a picture in my mind of where everything is
located. Apparently some of my Myers (and other related lines) lived in
Butler Township, near Garrett. I'm just trying to figure out about how far
from Dutch Ridge (and Nathan Myers' farm) the other Myers folks lived.
Karen

I am searching for information about my Myers family who lived in DeKalb
County. They appear to have lived in Butler Township, near Garrett.
Evelena MYERS married first William G. FREDERICKSON December 8, 1893. After
he was killed in 1928, she married Silas DITMARS on December 24, 1931.
Evelena's obituary says she lived most of her life in DeKalb County, just
southwest of Garrett.
Henry MYERS married Elizabeth Sarah FREEMAN in DeKalb County on September 5,
1856. Their children: Edward; John; Martha; Roseann; Priscilla.
Franklin B. MYERS married Elizabeth LIDGE in DeKalb County on March 17, 1859.
Their children: Jane; Mary; Juneby; Ben; Helen; Sam; Dora; Sarah.
Willoughby (William?) MYERS married Elizabeth FERGUSON, date unknown. They
apparently lived in DeKalb County. Their children: Mary; Manda; Carrie;
Nita and James.
John N. MYERS married Margerett BARRETT, date unknown. They either lived in
Perry Township in Allen County or in DeKalb County. Their children:
Catherine; Delbert; Bill and Arthur. Margerett died in 1874 and is buried in
the Dutch Ridge Cemetery in Perry Township, Allen County.
If anyone can give me any information on any of these people, I'd greatly
appreciate it!
Karen
Hi,
That was what I figured of her identity. I am looking for another Sarah
Jane (Dragoo) Rhodes who may have married about 1890. I am not sure of the
order of last 3 husbands, Britton, O'Neill and Rhodes. Her first was Henry
Fetters, then Emerson McCue. I think Rhodes was the last and I feel it was
in DeKalb. Since Newville was adjacent to Concord Township, I had hoped
this was her. But the initial E made it suspect. I have been in contact
with Arlene Goodwin, whom you are quoting, and I think this must be the same
Sarah that got me looking in Newville.
Thanks,
Dan Fetters
Hope, MI

I just realized it is a map of the township, so perhaps a location of the
property would be as good.
Thanks,
Dan

Haven't posted for awhile. I am grateful for the continued research that
is being done on my elusive line.
Let me know if anything has been uncovered.
For anyone new I will briefly tell about my line.
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN HARRIS b 17APR 1893 in BUTLER, IN.
A son of BENJAMIN HARRIS (at least this is name of his father on SS
application) and CLARE MARTHA CRAWFORD. DOB/POB unknown.
I was always told my grandfather , whom I saw once when I was 3 before he
died in 1939-40, that he was born in Coldwater, MI.. He was b about 1857-58.
In LDS site they list a CLARE CRAWFORD as a daughter of a ROBERT CRAWFORD &
MABEL BUCKLEY , but not sure if this the right one.
I am stumped and at a brickwall.
Regards to a good list, Richard Harris
Hi Carol,
Always better to be safe than sorry. As I understand it, when one of these
Microsoft says etc. it's ALWAYS a hoax. They do not issue warnings like
that. Thats what a computer expert told me once. Then we less knowledgeable
people send out warnings and fill the airwaves so to speak. Then I quess the
people starting the hoak win.
We know you have good intentions, thanks for looking out for all of us. The
only one I am aware of recent months is"look to the attachment". Which has
infected many many different mailing lists.

I am sorry I forwarded a message about a virus which was a hoax to the lists.
I've received approx 1,000 messages telling me that it was a hoax....Thanks to those people.
BUT---I'd rather send one virus warning that is a hoax out to you than have even one of you loose your computers to a virus because I didn't pass a warning along.
Please accept my apology.

I noticed Suzanne Franks Robbins' name on a recent message. I wonder if
you know if your Robbins family goes back to Martha Robbins who later
married Hugh Watt? Hugh was my great-great-great grandfather. I think
Martha's daughter married into the Squires family.

Hi Steve,
I can appreciate your desire to find more information. My fathers mothers
family is from DeKalb County but he knows virtually nothing about them. With
the help of Lucy and a few other "volunteers" we are putting together pieces
of a complex puzzle. It's been a pleasure to see his response whenever I
find a new family member he did not know existed.
I'll check the material tomorrow to see if your family names are listed and
let you know.
THANKS
S.TONY

Hi Steve
I'm not sure how many cemeteries are in the Newville area, but
the
one that I'm interested in,
as far as I know, is just called Newville cemetery. I was fortunate
enough to have Lynn
do a rubbing for me and she took a couple of
photos. What I am looking for, is a pair of head
stones on either side of my G-Grandmother
which simply read " Mother and Father". Chris
and Tammy said their Uncle may have the
plot records for Newville Cemetery. I would
love to see that one get transcribed and I would do whatever I could
to
help, though I am 2000
miles away.
My G-Grandmother's name is Clara (Murray)
Miller and I believe D.H. Murray is her father.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
Steve
