Greensburg was the third home of the Maynard family.
They (and the Hardings) were Salt Creek Twp. families.
Then New Point was their home.
Now the old people are long gone and only one family named MAYNARD still
lives in Greensburg, although we have DOERFLING and AmRHEIN as the other 2
families. The others have scattered.
The Maynard line leads back to mid 1600's in Kent and Sussex, England.
Lewis A. HARDING was an educator in New Point, lawyer in Greensburg and
author of many books written while working as an educator around the country.
He authored the Decatur Co. history book while still a young man. He has
been unrecognized largely as the genius he was.
Nettie Harding Maynard was his first cousin. Their grandparents in common
were John Harding, born in VA, buried in the old section of Old Rossburg
Cemetery, and his third and last wife, Susan ABRAHAM, also buried in the
cemetery.
Susan Abraham's family led back to Westmoreland/Fayette Cos. in PA and
earlier to Chester Co., PA, then to colonial Philadelphia where Noah Abraham
married Mary WYNNE, granddaughter of Dr. Thomas Wynne, Quaker, physician to
William PENN, traveler on the ship "The Welcome" with Penn, and the first
and second president of the PA colonial leaders. His first wife and the
mother of his children was Martha BUTTALL, who died in England. His Cymry line
leads back many generations in Flint Co., of Wales.
I have the details of these families and willing to share what I can, if I
can, those names in Salt Creek Twp., New Point, and Greensburg.
