They lived on Duck

His parents (whoever they may be) supposedly lived on
Possum Creek and later

went on a flat boat to
Indiana.

Only have a minute:
I believe John PILES of Belmont Co OH (Jonathan in the 1820
Belmont Co OH
census; John thereafter) was a son of David PILES (born
c1760, died sometime
after 1830; David last appears in the 1830 census (Decatur
Co IN).) Your John
was likely born in Loudoun Co VA. I have the same date, 25
APR 1786 (but VA,
not OH) for him. A patron submission to the IGI in the
1950s made this
connection for me, and it makes sense to the point that I
have accepted it.
John would fit between proven daughter Jemima PILES (born
c1783) and likely
son Thomas PILES (born c1790; living near David in 1830 IN).
Note that your John named his first male child David
(c1816), another clue to
his parentage.
In 1820, David PILES was in Monroe Co, neighboring county
to Belmont Co OH.
There are only bits and pieces regarding this John PILES in
The PYLE Book, but
lots of info on the earlier generations from which John
likely sprang (going
back to Francis PILES (c1660-1727)), once you've made the
connection (which,
as noted, is not made in the PYLE Book). If you can afford
it, you should buy
the book.
The OH to IN migration you cite fits nicely. Can you tell
me where you got
that history?
