John:
I will share anyhting I have someone else wants! I have found a cousin,
William Elder, from reading a query on your page. For that, I can't thank
you enough. I have a website (hopefully it will change a great deal by
Jan.) of mostly Bartholomew County, Indiana families, but a few settled
first in Decatur. The CHRISTY, SMOTHERS & SCHROER ones I am a direct
descendant of, while I have a lot of info on the allied families (as well as
some wonderful ca 1890 wedding photos) of the SCHWERING, SCHOETTMER,
ARTMIER, VOGEL, EUBANKS and SNELLING.
I have been trying to figure out what happened to my Christy family between
1870 and 1880. I can track William and Sarah Christy to Clay twp, Decatur
county (1860 census) page 978, Dwell# 684, family# 71, ages 25 and 23, both
born in IN with a 1 year old dau. Mary (Mary Bell ELDER) and 20 yr old
Joshua Christy.
In 1870, they are in Marion twp, William Christy, 35, b. IN; Sarah A., 33,
b. IN; Mary B., 11; Matta (f), 9; Luetta, 6; Ida M. (Ida May KNARR), 5; and
Wilbur G., 2; all children born in IN. Wilbur was Wilbur Gibbs Christy, my
great-great grandfather.
By 1880, Wilby Christy, 12, adopted, at home in the Marion twp household of
John CLEMMONS and wife Lynilda and children James, Myrta & Otto M. CLEMMONS.
Wilbur's younger brother (only brother), Edgar Christy, 6, boarder, is in
the Marion twp household of James FORTUNE and wife Abigail and 19 yr old
dau. Adelaide FORTUNE.
Can't find any death record, cemetery record, tombstone, re-marriage or will
to explain where William and Sarah went!
Any clue as to where to look next?
Thank you.

Subject: Decatur Co genweb pages
I've added to the Decatur County genweb pages a few new lookup
resources.
One is for the 1860 census, the others for family records. We now have
volunteers willing to share their extensive resources on the following
families: Elder, Geiger, Gray, Haines, Harding, Maynard, Montgomery,
Morris, Nordmeyer, O'Hara, Pemberton, Reddington/Redington, Sharp, Wood.
If any of you have records you're willing to share, let me know.
I'm particularly eager to find look-up volunteers with access to any of the
following:
DAR (Greensburg chapter): Bible records.
DAR (Greensburg chapter): 1894 enrolment of Civil War soldiers, widows and
orphans
Maurice Holmes: Decatur Co Court Records, 1822-1848
Maurice Holmes: Decatur Co Will Records, 1822-1906
And most of all, an index that covers Harding's History and several others:
WPA: Index of names in 5 Decatur County histories (1938 typescript).
Copies in Greensburg Library and Indiana State Library.
I'm also planning to set up a page of links to family genealogy websites
with substantial Decatur IN linkages. I've found a few of these, but would
be happy to hear of others. Incidentally, some county genweb pages,
notably Pike IN, have found funding support enabling them to put up copies
of the original census pages from 1820 through 1880.
I've also changed the background color for the site pages from the electric
blue that I inherited to a less obtrusive dull green.
