The will of Edmon HOWE dec'd was produced in court Oct 7, 1844 and
proved by the oaths of Francis A. DORR and John UPDYKE, subscribing
witnesses. The will was dated Aug 4, 1844 and all of Edmon's personal
and real property was left to this wife Sarah. Jesse HIGGINS also
witnessed the will. [based on entries befor and after this one, the

dec'd. John T. HIGGINS was clerk at the sale. 27 Mar 1845.

An inventory of the personal property of John LEFLER dec'd was
entered here appraised by James SMITH and Henry GITHEN and included
two brass candelsticks, a mantle clock, a looking glass, one lot of
books, one dozen wool hats, two fine hats, one lot of hatter's tools,
one lot of wool and hat material, thirty four notes and accounts due the
dec'd, and the usual household and farm items of that day. Also listed
were accounts for hats made for: William PRUITT, J. RYAN, Thomas
THROP, Richard CLARK, John YORK, Jesse HIGGINS, Major KING, Jacob
HITE, James ARDERY, William HOGUE, (or HAGUE), James HALSEY,
Benjamin SNELLING, George NOAH Jr and Philip WILLIAMSON.

Probate Order Book F, page 23:
James M. WISE made final settlement as administrator of the estate
of John WISE Sr dec'd. John WISE Jr also being dec'd, his share went
to the administrator of his estate. Other heirs of John Sr: Robert M.
HIGGINS and wife, Richard WISE and the adm. 1 Dec 1846.
Complete Record Probate Book D, page 223:
James M. WISE was appointed administrator 25 Sep 1843 of the estate
of John WISE Sr dec'd with Jacob MILLER as his security. It was stated
that John had no widow surviving him and that James was his son. An
inventory of John's personal property was filed in court appraised by
Thomas WHEATLEY and James ARDERY which included a rifle, $490 in cash
and the usual household and farm items of that time. Cyrus Henry was
cleark at the sale of the personal property. The residue of the estate
went to Sinda ? MCCOY, John WISE Jr, Robert M. HIGGINS and wife,
Richard WISE and the adm. Settlement made Nov 1846.
ibid, page 424:
Joseph WAINWRIGHT vs Nancy WISE the widow and James age 20, John
age 11, Francis age 15, Richard N. age 8, Sarah Jane age 13 and Nancy
Jane WISE aged 4 all heirs of John WISE dec'd in a petition for
partition of John's real estate in Boone, Hendricks and Decatur
counties. John's widow Nancy, also listed as Elizabeth, was now the
wife of the petitioner Joseph WAINWRIGHT. The real estate was six 80
acre tracts: three in Boone Co in sections 9 & 3, twp 17, range 1; two
in Hendricks Co in section 17, twp 17, range 1; and one in Decatur Co
in section 12, twp 11, range 10. Robert HIGGINS was appointed the
guardian of the minor heirs for the partition. A commission was
appointed to make the partition, which they do and report their results
to the court. May 1847.
Complete Record Probate Book D, page 543:
Upon his application, Andrew MCCOY was appointed adm 25 Sep 1843 of
the estate of John WISE Jr dec'd with James M. WISE and Jacob F.
MILLER as his securities. The widow relinquished her right to act as
admx. An inventory of John's personal property was filed in court
appraised by James ARDERY and Thomas WHEATLEY which included some
woodworking tools, a rifle, some cash in silver, several promissory
notes due the dec'd and the usual household and farm items of that era.
Listed was the personal property retained by the widow and Cyrus HENRY
was clerk at the sale of the remainder of the personal property. Cash
received from the estate of John WISE Sr was listed in the report by
the adm. The widow and seven heirs received the residue of the estate
but were not here named. Robert M. HIGGINS was listed as the guardian
of the six minor heirs and the share of Elizabeth WAINWRIGHT was turned
over to the court. Final settlement made Feb 1848.
