The following note is from Irene Krieger, president of the Tri-County
Genealogical Society, which covers Decatur, Franklin and Ripley Counties:
The Tri-County Genealogical Society meets at the Batesville Memorial Public
Library at 7:00 pm Wed. evening. We meet the 2nd Wed. of every month.
We have a brief business meeting, usually first, unless our speaker for the
evening comes from a distance and would like to get an early start for home.
In that case we sometimes have the speaker first & take care of busines after
the program. We have had many excellent programs. Several of our members
have a wide knowledge of, and friendship with some very knowledgeable people
enabling us to have them do programs. Many of our programs are about German
genealogy, but we do have some programs on other ancestral roots as well.
Several faithful members from Columbus IN, Cincinnati OH, & Indianapolis IN
are almost always there. Some of our members have made trips to Germany and
other places to research and have come back with excellent information.
Following the program some people stay to visit & discuss genealogy or
whatever for a short time, until the library closes. Many of us have found
common roots so we have something in common to talk about. I have found many
distant cousins that I didn't know about until we met through TCGS.
