Greetings all,
Those who are interested in ordering the reprint of the Lewis Harding's
1915 Decatur County History book should be aware that the book DOES NOT
contain an index of all names listed. There are a few listings of those
direct biographies but not EVERY name contained in the 1216 page book.
In 1938 the WPA (Works Progress Administration for those who do not
remember or slept thru their History classes!) separately indexed all
names in the 1915 book, along with 4 other books. After looking for a
long time, I found that there was no reprint of that index and
photocopied the 274 page index which was at the library in Greensburg.
I imagine that the Indiana State Library also has an original printing
as they were the sponsors. I believe that there is also a microfilm of
it which can be loaned thru the Mormon Family History Centers.
I will be willing to provide page numbers from the index to those who
have the book already or access to it without an index. The index has
names only - no churches, cemeteries, etc.
Attn Phyllis F. of the Shelby Co. GenWeb site - You are doing a
..wonderful.. job of providing Decatur Co. info along with Shelby Co.!
St. Maurice information is found on page 129 of the 1915 book, along
with the parish info on p. 273. In the 1984 Decatur Co History book
from the Historial Society, St. Maurice info is on p. 82. The library
in Greensburg has a copy if Shelby's doesn't. And I think (as of a year
ago!) the Historical Society still had some of the 1984 (only) books for
sale. Contact them for info.
