Trying to connect my Huston Brown (b. 1832). I have NO information
on Huston Brown prior to his enlistment in 1863 at Nativity, KY. His
pension record lists him as enlisting as an Iowan. He married in
Benton County, IA to Nancy Jane Long who was born in Decatur County,
Indiana. Although I believe Nancy Jane was a grown woman at the time,
she came to Benton County, IA with her parents, Woodson P. Long and
Anna K. Waddle. I suspect that Huston Brown knew Nancy Jane while
both lived in Indiana but when Huston was mustered out of the war in
Feb. 1866, he came to Benton County, IA to marry his love rather than
going back to Indiana. Huston and Nancy were married November 11,
1866 (same year as his discharge).
I do not have the name of Huston Brown's parents or any of his siblings
either but my fiancÈe's father told my fiance that his ancestors originally
came from the East and hear tell that he thought they came over on the
Mayflower or some other pilgrimage ship way back........
Since Huston Brown was born in 1832, records of such were scarce or, if they
didn't, there was usually a fire or other natural disaster that destroyed
them. Do you know of a way that I might find a Huston Brown's name who was
born in 1832 in Indiana? Something that may give me a clue as to who his
parents were? I am at a loss!
