My thanks to Kathy and Ron for their hard work. Just a note to those who
sometimes cannot find someone that should be in the census. I had checked
the indexes years ago for my gggrandfather John Leffler and could not find
him. Then I read the census for myself and found him listed as John Favor
(and his brother as Abram Favor). They were living in the household of
their mother Catherine and their stepfather Thomas Favor. I assume the last
name was an assumption on the part of the census taker as neither of them
used the last name of Favor when they were older. When you read the 1850
Adams Twp, Decatur Co., IN census you will find them on page 107b in
household 54. I also strongly suspect that the John Leffler in the
household of Willis and Elizabeth Pearce (pg111a, household 112) may be the
same John, as Elizabeth was his sister and I do not have records of another
John that could have been there. His age is 13 and not 15, but that could
be a misunderstanding, incorrect information given to the census taker, or a
misreading of 3 for 5. The 1850 census is such a boon to genealogists, but
with all written records, we have to combine it with all our knowledge to
come up with as accurate picture as we can.
