The following is from Phyllis Miller Fleming. It would be wonderful
to have equivalent maps for Decatur and Rush Counties.
I have been waiting for the mail list to come back "online" to
announce this, but it doesn't look like that will happen in the near
future. For those of you interested in checking the INSHELBY mail,
you can view it here:

You will need to put INSHELBY in the search box.

About five years ago, a Shelber (Kathryn Jennings) sent me a plat map
she had compiled for the Freeport area in the 1830-40s. Huge. So
wonderful! Just to see all the neighbors and the physical
relationships. I've wanted to create an online version ever since
that time.
Two years ago I described my initial idea for a county-wide plat map
to George Young. George said -- no problem -- he would get me the
data and I could put the puzzle pieces together. George finished his
part quickly. I didn't to my part nearly so quickly!!
Here is the finished product. My goal was that any researcher could
print as many 'sections' as they needed to create the specific plat
map they needed. The work represents all 16 congressional
township/range areas from T14N-R8E in the northeast through T11N-R5E
in the southwest. There are 408 individual sections -- all
printer-friendly. The data is from the BLM records. There are a few
inconsistencies in the data, but relatively speaking, VERY few. If
you know the layout of the congressional townships, you will probably
want to start with the county map

(bottom of page)
and go directly to your area of interest. If you are unsure of 'your
area' you will want to use the search engine on the front page of the
website

or the alphabetical index of purchaser

PLEASE contact me directly with any broken or incorrect links:

I am currently working on an online version of George's index based
on residence of the purchaser at the time of the purchase and his
index based on the date the purchase was made.
Please forward this message to any Shelbers you know. Thanks!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from George Young
