Hello
We are finally back from vacation--a few days later than we thought--and are
ready to start on the Franklin County Pioneer Reunion again. I have had
several questions about how to submit a file for inclusion on the CD, so THE
FOLLOWING ARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING YOUR GEDCOM FILE. Please follow
them exactly; I need to have consistent information from everyone in order
to make a CD that will be useful. I MUST have all the indicated
information, or I will not be able to include your file on the CD.
IMPORTANT: Submitting your gedcom file and ordering a CD are two separate
activities. We will send another message with an order form when we are
ready to receive orders and money.
IMPORTANT: If you have previously submitted a file to me, please _do it
again_. Some of you did not include complete information, and some subject
lines didn't indicate that you were attaching a file. My spam filter may
have deleted your message, or I may have not recognized it as a submission
and deleted it myself. I had over 2,000 email messages when I got back!
Okay, here is what I need you to do:
1. REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE AND ATTACH YOUR FILE. This will ensure that you
will send it to the correct email address and that your subject line is the
one I will recognize. Include this message with your reply. All email
programs have a "reply" feature. Please use it!
2. Make sure your file is in GEDCOM format and is sent as an ATTACHMENT.
(Most genealogy software exports in gedcom format by default. If you're not
sure your software does this automatically, try searching the Help file for
"gedcom.") If you can't create a gedcom file, please email me separately.
3. Name the file the same name as your email address (the part before the @
symbol.) For example, my file would be named "karenc.ged." This will help
me keep the file with the right person. If you don't know how to rename a
file, please email me and I will help you--or contact me on AIM. My screen
name is cuzzinkc1, and my email address is karenc(a)thepoint.net.
4. Fill out the form at the end of this message. I need ALL of the
requested information, but I won't publish your address and/or phone number
if you don't want me to. Just indicate "Don't publish" after each item
you
don't want included on the CD. (I will say, however, that the purpose of
this CD is to allow people to contact you if they can help with your
research or believe you might be able to help them. You may want to make it
as easy as possible for someone to find you!)
5. Include no more than 10 (ten) surnames on the form. I'm working on
making a searchable index for the CD, and I think ten is a reasonable
number. (The index may or may not happen, depending on how much time I
have.)
6. Send your email before August 22nd. Since we're a week late in
returning from vacation, I'll give you a little more time. But I can't
guarantee that I'll be able to include any file I receive after the 22nd.
Here is the form:
