Marilyn,
Have you checked census in Decatur Co IN for your Henry and Maggie
Miller? I have copied a few Miller entries, since George W. Miller, son
of a Henry Miller, married Catherine Butcher 14 November 1850.
Catherine was daughter of William Butcher and his wife Christena
Hildebrand and lived in Fugit Tp. which means she was a sister to my
Great-Grandmother Margaret R. Butcher who married James Harvey Ray also
in Fugit Tp. My Grandfather Joseph Rankin Ray, oldest son of James and
Margaret Ray ended up in Champaign Co IL, and Wm. A. Miller, called
"Ad", oldest son of George and Catherine Miller was living with them in
the 1880 census in Champaign Co. He remained in Champaign Co, and I
believe at least one of his brothers moved there, also.
The County History states that both Henry Miller and William Butcher
were in the Battle of River Raisin, and we did find a War of 1812 marker
for Wm. Butcher in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, although we did not find a
tombstone for him. The history books tell us that most of the soldiers
in the Battle of River Raisin were Kentucky Volunteers.
In 1860 the George and Catherine Miller were in Fugit Tp, with
children Mary E., Sarah C. and Susan R. Next door was a Henry Miller 68
born in VA, Rebecca 55, born in KY, and two daughters Milley 19 and
Margaret 17 both born in Indiana. There were several other children in
this Miller family, and I believe this would be the Henry Miller who was
mentioned as having been in the War of 1812.
There was a Salt Creek Tp. Henry Miller in the 1850 census aged 57,
with wife Margaret 47, Catherine 18, Eliza 12, and Henry 10, all born in
Germany. Perhaps this could be your Henry who married Maggie.
