In reference to Pat Bartelmey's inquiry, there IS a Mowrey cemetery in
Decatur County. Actually, it is referred to as the Nelson Mowrey Cemetery,
Nelson Mowrey having been one of the more well known local philanthropists
during the early 1900s.
The Nelson Mowrey Cemetery is located in Clay Township, specifically in the
NW 1/2 of the NE 1/4 of Sec. 12, Twp. 10 N, Rge. 8E. The cemetery, still
in excellent condition, is on land once owned by Mr. Mowrey, and contains
graves of many people who lived in the vicinity of the cemetery. There is
a compiled list of the burials (perhaps not complete nor fully accurate) in
the Greensburg Public Library Local History collection.
