Verla:
You are missing some info to pinpoint the land. Unlikely it was for the whole
township. Descriptions usually run something like Northeast quarter of the southwest
quarter of Section 14 in Township 10 Range 8 That likely would be abbreviated: NE
1/4 SW 1/4 14/10/8.
It is important not to confuse these so-called congressional townships with the
political townships such as Jackson Twp. These townships are six miles square and
there are 36 one mile square sections in each. Once I got over that hurdle, it's not
hard to locate land. The county roads largely follow the section lines. You do need
a survey map to identify the congressional townships.
Township 10 North in Range 8 East is in Clay Township, bounded by Jackson Township
on the south, Bartholemew County on the west, CR 100N on the north and in part
CR500W and IN3 on the east. Give us the full description and we can pinpoint it and
maybe tell you who owns the land now (or at least when this map was printed.)

I have a copy of 2 land patents in Decatur County, one in 1834 and
the other
in 1835. The descriptions gives Township 10, North of Range eight. Can
someone tell me where this would have been in Decatur county and any other
information that might help me.
Thanks a bunch. Verla Pinkerton
