Those of you who may have tried to post to or read from the GenConnect
Queries or other message boards which serve the Decatur and Rush County
GenWeb pages will have encounterefd messages to the effect that these are
currently unavailable.
Rootsweb.com, the server on which these GenWeb pages (and most others)
are based, was bought out by MyFamily, Inc during the past year.
MyFamily also owns
Ancestry.com, most of whose services require a
subscription fee. During the past week it has been announced that the
GenConnect boards on Rootsweb will be merged with the Queries and other
message boards on
Ancestry.com. Neither are accessible as of today, but
the new boards will require registering with
Ancestry.com, without fee,
to obtain access to them.
There has been active discussion within the GenWeb project about
appropriate responses to these changes and new options for query and
message boards are likely to emerge. In the meantime we are all
inconvenienced. I'll keep you posted on further developments, though
while travelling during the next three weeks I won't have constant access
to internet.
