Pat:
I can't help you on this branch, except for giving some advice. I would take an
additional look at this marriage between Elizabeth Kanouse and James Shaner. The
names seem to match, even if they are reversed. Unfortunately, the date is also
pretty far off. But in many cases these "long shots" pay off. You may have
better leads or other branches of the family you would rather spend time on, but
don't discard this marriage as a possibility.

First, thanks to all who responded on my census question. Hopefully, someone
will be able to help me on this one!
Elizabeth Kanouse b. August 22, 1818 married Jacob Shupert January 13, 1834
in Decatur County, d. August 29, 1875
One of their eight children was:
Sarah Ellen Shupert b. March 9, 1839 m. John L. Smith May 24, 1860 d. June
15, 1925
In the burial records at South Park, Sarah Ellen (Shupert) Smith mother's
name is listed as Elizabeth Shane. Obviously, this leads me to believe
Elizabeth was married prior to her marriage to Jacob Shupert.
Does anyone have research showing an Elizabeth Shane marrying a Kanouse? Any
information or suggestions would be appreciated.
