Dear Decatur County list members,
I bought a roll of microfilm of Greensburg, Indiana Greensburg New Era
dated January 1914 through December 1914. I hope I have the right
county. I believe Greensburg was in Decatur County.
I checked for my family obituaries and did not find one in this roll. We
had moved on I think this particular editor would make up an obituary
only if her got paid. Unless it was a robbery or a friend or some
exciting story. I decided to post some of the stories before donating
this roll to the local LDS Family History Center. (genealogy library)
Sometimes this editor made up more than one edition of the newspaper on
the same day. I have dated the stories and obituaries as typed. I need
to tell you that I did a quick scan. Some of these obituaries were
scattered through advertisements. I am sure I did not get them all.
There were many big stories and lots of gossip that I have not taken the
time to type up. You may purchase the microfilm roll for yourself or get
it on loan through the Indiana Historical Library I have included the
roll number for your order.- Janet Price

The Twentieth Anniversary
Twenty years ago seems like a long time, but you would never would hays
thought that Mr. And Mrs. Scott MURPHEY had been married that long if
you had seen them frolicking with their guests the Independent Club and
families last Saturday. Counting them all big and little, fifty- two
people helped the MURPHYS celebrate the twentieth anniversary and never
will they forget the day. To be sure the bridal couple said No when
the minister asked the leading questions in the marriage ceremony when
they should of said Yes but all was settled to satisfy both later and
everybody blessed the day and wished them many happy returns.
* Note from Janet ISLEY Price, I am posting this for others. Yes, the
last name MURPHY was spelled two different ways. This article is typed
as written. I think the typesetter got a bit mixed up on the first
line. I am not related to the subjects.

Hard Fall
Mrs. William HASS had a hard fall on the street Wednesday afternoon as
the iron grating at the Citizens Bank corner turned as she stepped on to
it. She fell heavily and her foot was so wedged down almost to the sewer
that she was entirely unable to extricate herself or rise without
assistance. Her entire body was so severely wretched.

Celebrating 48th Wedding Day
Forty-eight years ago today Mike GANNON and his wife were married and
they are celebrating that important event in a sensible, quiet way amid
the hearty congratulations of their many friends.
Starting life together as an open faced, honest hearted Irish lad and a
bright eyed rosy cheeked Irish lass back in Pennsylvania the two have
marched side by side down through the years of time until here they are
in Greensburg, our friends and our neighbors.
They stand now at the summit from which they may look back through the
valley and the plain and see the stages of the journey they have taken.
In memory they may live over end over again the happy incidents of the
past. Pleasures and joy leaves no scars and memory smooths (sic) out
many of the rough and ugly spots.
Looking forward? Yes, from this summit these two are looking forward to
the happy sunset hour of life, the happy, beautiful hour just before the
sun goes to rest behind the everlasting hills.
May these good friends be left to enjoy the peaceful quiet hours of
twilight many many days!
Race Suicide
Quadruplets were born to Mr. And Mrs. Arnold KILLEN, of Indianapolis
yesterday. The babies all died at birth. The first-born was a boy, then
twin girls and another boy. The attending physicians were Dr. Charles O.
DURHAM and Dr. William MC BRIDE. KILLEN is 21. They have no other
children. According to the birth records the KILLIANS are the first
parents of Quadruplets in Marion County. Medical records show the
greatest number of children ever born at one time is five.

Death of Mrs. TALBOTT
Mrs. Clara Armington TALBOTT lost a brave fight against double pneumonia
Sunday morning. Her death leaves her sister Miss MACK, last and only
representative of the ARMINGTON family, one that played active and
important part in the conduct of the city and county in political and
social life. Mrs. TALBOTT of kindly generous nature, loved and admired
by every one who came within her influence. She was a charter member of
the 94 Club, the only charter who came to death while in active
membership and her duty to the club was always done well and faithfully.
She was a good woman, and we shall miss her sadly. Our hearts go out in
sympathy to those nearest to her to those who have lost her loving
ministrations.
