Hi Merna,
Yes it does look like there are oarrallels indeed! James and a John turn up
in Decatur Co. In. abt the same time, 1830. One of these gentlemens was the
father of my Robert, don't know which one yet. John was 40-50 and James was
30-40 in 1830. Both old enough, and they both had males the right age to be
Robert. Robert was born about 1820 in Ohio. Lore is this James came from
Butler Co. Ohio to Decatur Co. about 1821. No one seems to know anything
about John. He has to be related to James though, they turn up about the
same time frame.
You might have opened a whole new door to me. I will be looking in the
Cumberland Co. Pa. area for my Armstrongs. Please if you know anything else
let me know. My Arstrongs have been a brick wall so longggggggg.!!!
Vickie

Vickie,
I have a Wallace family from the Path Valley area of Cumberland Co, PA
(now the area where Juniata/Franklin/Huntingdon Cos join) who lived near
the Armstrong family in the 1770-1785 time period and maybe earlier. The
Wallace family moved to Ohio in 1797 and lived in Colerain Twp in
northern Hamilton Co near the Butler Co line. James Wallace died in 1801
and named "my good friend, James Armstrong" in his will as one of the
executors of his estate, making it look like the Armstrongs were also in
the area. In the 1830's David Wallace, (s/o James), moved his family to
Ripley Co, Indiana and then by the 1840's to Greensburgh, Decatur Co,
Indiana where David died in 1860.
In the Cumberland Co Wills, 1682-1834, Bk B #120,(filmed by the FHL),
there is a will for John Armstrong of Tuscarora Valley, Cumberland Co,
PA. The will was written 3 Mar 1770 and probated 10 Jun 1772. John names
his wife Eleanor and sons John, James, William, Joseph and George. Daus
are "Mary Armstrong" and "Isabell". Exers were "David Wallace
and George
McConnel of Valley aforesaid" and the witnesses were "David Hosack and
David Moore".
The book, American Revolutionary Soldiers of Franklin County,
Pennsylvania by Virginia Shannon Fendrick at the FHL lists lots of
Armstrongs of this area of PA. You might want to check that out, too. The
FHL catalog says this book has not been microfilmed, but the title page I
photocopied gives the microfilm date of 8 Dec 1983 . . . . and I can't
read the film number! I do have the project and roll number of XL1B7p102,
#623, also item #2. With this information, it might be possible for SL to
find the film number.
Looks like there are a lot of parallels here . . . . hope something
helps!
