Irene,
I appreciate your information so very much. Is there anyway at all you
would have access to a digital camera where you could happen to take any
pictures of the headstones if you happen to go there? How much would it
cost for you to do something like that? I am actually doing this to help
someone else out. My daughter went to Ohio to purchase something and she
ran into a lady and they started talking genealogy and she told her that I
am doing the genealogy on my family and this lady asked her if I could find
out some information for her. I have no clue who she is but I wanted to
help her out. Thank you again.

Subject: [INDECATU] Re: New Pennington, New Point
I was born very near New Pennington which is 3 miles south of New
Point
and I
attended New Point school. I consider New Pennington still there
although
there
aren't many houses there and the New Pennington Church I used to
attend
there is
now a residence. There was a school there in the early 1900s. A
number
of my
ancestors have lived at New Pennington.
New Point didn't replace New Pennington. Dr. Pennington originally laid
out
the
town but it just didn't develop as he expected it to.
In my book of known burials at the New Pennington Cemetery there is listed
an
Isaiah Rogers b 8-30-1855, d 2-16-1953, s/o Isaiah Rogers and
Rebecca
Mills.
Also his wife Clemma C. Rogers b 9-9-1870, d 12-7-1934, d/o John A.
Land
&
Marieta Disbrow. Clemma was first married to Henry Hoffman.
Clemma's parents are also buried in New Pennington which is probably the
reason
Isaiah & Clemma are there even if they lived at Greensburg.
(In reading this I see that Isaiah was over 97 when he died. I think I'll
look
this up again to make sure I haven't made a typo on his birth or
death
year.)
It's been a few years since I looked up all the obits on these people in
order
to
compile the book "Burial Records of Salt Creek Township Decatur
County
Indiana" so
I cannot remember if I did indeed find obits on Isaiah & Clemma
but it's
very
likely I did and that their obits are in the Greensburg Daily News
files.
You do not have to go onto anyone's property to get to the cemetery.
There is
a
drive way that goes back to the cemetery.
I have a number of ancestors buried there so I go there to check on the
tombstones
now & then as it is less than 10 minutes from where I live.
