On this kind of query it's always worthwhile going into
www.google.com (or altavista or other search engines), entering
simply Zobel Shelby, and turning up a couple of dozen websites that
have information on the history of the family in the county. If the
number of returns is too great or contains too many useless hits, you
can always refine it by adding Genealogy or changing to "Shelby Co
IN" or "Shelby Co Indiana" or "Shelby County IN" or "Shelby
County
Indiana". A bit of lateral thinking comes in handy.
I've just succeeded in identifying a long-sought-after gggfather in
Decatur County. Once I had a likely name, Isaac Colwell, and the
possibility of his having been in Dearborn (located through mention
of her birthplace in his daughter's obituary) I could try out various
combinations of names (including Caldwell) on Google. Up came his
parents' tombstones in Dearborn, an 1836 mortgage by Isaac in Decatur
and a land grant to his father signed by John Quincy Adams (on a
presidential signatures-for-sale website!).
