Hi all, if person was from the Westport, Decatur Co., IN area, the local
funeral home may have a National Funeral Home ledger with this data.
I got copies from the Bass and Gasper Funeral Home (Westport) of my
gggrreat grandparents and ggreat grandparents that show just about
everything most are looking for, including cause of death and burial
location. It also had cost and payments made on funeral. They took hay
and other farm raised barter for some of these ancestors payment!
I had searched every where for these ancestors death certificate and burial
location, and with the funeral home owner, I found all. This data from a
11 X 14 ledger book that was over 100 years old, so it was amazing that it
was still available. I found all this by asking about cemetery location
for another group of ancestors that I knew where they were buried. They
asked if I had others in the area, and now I have located four distinct
ancestral families buried in Decatur Co, so this was like opening a
treasure map.
Not sure if much help in your case but Good Luck KatsGenes(a)aol.com!
For Myron,
I have Williams ancestors here in West Tennessee too! My dad's mothers
side. They were from Germany in the 1850's, and we think Williams was the
Americanized version of "Wilhelms" as we are not finding Williams in
Germany. It has been noted that most immigration officers were not well
educated, thus spelling changes were their spellings. The immigrants
didn't object as they thought this was the English language spelling or
were not able to read or write their names either.

I expect the FHC microfilm will be an image of the record book pages.
That will NOT be the transcription you received. But it may very well be
of the same record. It is very likely the original was discarded a
century ago. The official record is probably all that survives.
I found a similar situation with the marriage record of my wife's great
grandmother. The clerk's copy in very legible form was excellent, but
provided no new information. Nothing of parents.which I was especially
wanting. And the bride and groom's signatures were merely the clerk's
transcriptions.
