The Elizabeth Seals you mentioned should be Elizabeth Scales. They were my
grandmother's grandparents. This information came from my grandmother. Just
thought to clarify....Connie

Mary - There were three letters that were sent to Felix & Hannah Raney
from their Martin & Daviess county relatives. The Feb. 4, 1872 letter
(it's actually 1877) was from Ignatius F. O'Brien to Felix Raney. Felix
was residing in Lincoln Co., MO at the time. Ignatius was a son of Robert
O'Brien & Anne Delia Riney. This letter makes several references to
various family relationships including Ignatius referring to Felix as
"uncle". Felix was a son of Clement Riney and Susannah Montgomery.
There was also a Feb. 10, 1885 letter to Felix Raney from Oscar Cissell.
Oscar is Thomas Oscar Cissell, son of Thomas Cissell Jr. and Elizabeht
Seals. Thomas Cissell Jr. was the son of Thomas Cissell Sr. and Elizabeth
Harriet Riney. Harriet was a daughter of Clement Raney and Susannah
Montgomery. This letter also makes several references to family
relationships including Oscar referring to Felix & Hannah as uncle and
aunt.
The third letter is dated Mar. 12, 1890 and is from John R. O'Brien, son
of Robert O'Brien and Anne Delia Riney. This letter is addressed to "Aunt
Hannah". This letter refers to Felix's death which had evidently occurred
fairly recently. This letter also makes reference to various family
members including relationships.
The three letters were probably originally handwritten but are now in
typed form. The letters were apparently in the possession of Hannah Raney
nee Morris when she died in Briscoe, MO 1/7/1907. Someone in the family
had kept the letters and Marilyn Gappa obtained copies in recent months.
As mentioned earlier, there were a couple typos in the letter showing a
date of Feb. 4, 1872. The year should be 1877 and the person sending the
letter is actually I. F. O'Brien and not S. F. O'Brien as shown.
I would be glad to send you copies of the three letters along with my own
comments on family relationships that I sent to Marilyn earlier in the
year. However, I will need your email address. If you have the email
address of Shirley Platt you can contact her for my email address. Email
addresses on this Board do not appear to be accessible in most cases.
