Evalina would have been my gg-grandmother. My Grandmother, Emma (Stewart) Alexander was
James and Evalina's granddaughter. Through my own research and another Stewart cousin
on Ancestry, I've been able to piece together a reasonable amount of data concerning
James and his children. I've yet to find (after 5 yrs of research) anything concerning
his parents and/or siblings.
Yes, James was first married to martha ann McIntosh in Ohio Cty., In. Martha must have
died, or perhaps they were divorced within 2 yrs . of their wedding. James apparently
moved across state to daviess Cty., for reasons unknown to me. Shortly thereafter, he
married Evalina. They had 6 (possibly 7) children. James joined the Union Army in 1862
when he was 40 yrs. old and served for the duration of the War.
I know that Evalina died ca. 1871 in Daviess Cty., but I have no further information on
that. James then married a widow, Precia Jones Russell. At some point after 1880, James,
Precia and several of James' grown children moved to Adair Cty., Mo. ; again, for
unknown reasons. James died there in 1902; Precia died there in 1912.
I've just begun to delve into the Burris family, so I don't have much to share
concerning them. I do have a reasonable amount concerning James and Evalina'a children
and grandchildren.
Let me know what data you'd like.
Thanks.
