Looking for info on Ephraim Thompson who was in Comers Fort early on. He was an early
county commissioner in 1817; was a judge. I think his wife was Margaret, b 1783, MD.
I'd like to know who his children were. One was possibly John Thompson, b 1802, SC,
who was married to an Elizabeth, b. England. John was the county treasurer in 1850.
One of John and Elizabeth's sons was Ephraim Thompson, b 1834, who wrote about his
adventures in the CA gold rush, and how happy he was to return to Daviess, where he became
a dry goods merchant. Ephraim married Eliza Bruner. I only know of one child of Ephraim
and Eliza, Martha/Mattie, b 1859, who married J.C. Lavelle in 1879. Young Ephraim's
brothers included, Edward, b 1834, also in drygoods; William, b 1840, an attorney.
Does anyone know where these Thompsons might have been buried? Are there any living
descendants in the area? Was Dorcas Thompson, b 1811 in SC a daughter of the older
Ephraim? Was Andrew Thompson, b 1816 in IN, possibly a son?
Dorcas married first, Minard Smith of Daviess and there were two sons, Wm. H., b 1840 and
M.L., b 1845; second Samuel Alexander, a Presbytrian minister who took over from Rev.
Scott in Vincennes I think. Samuel's first wife was the daughter of Rev. Scott. They
may have had a connection to the Mayhall family as well; and to Gibson Co, IN.
Ephraim may have come to IN from Washington Co, KY, and prior to that SC and MD, as did
some other families on this board. Does anyone have a list of the early pioneers and whom
they traveled with?
