Message Board Post:
I am interested in your Brown line for a couple of reasons, first I am a descendant of
Benjamin Brown of Union SC who died there in 1801 and then his family moved to Madison IL
in 1806. I am also a Wallace (Rev. John Wallace to Daviess IN in 1806).
Benjamin Brown's descendant and my great grandmother, Mariah Rice was the daughter of
Maria Wallace who was John Wallace's granddaughter. This marriage of Mariah Rice and
Ryderus Clark Gillham, III took place in White/IL that had in earlier times been in the
Daviess IN area.
I cannot seem to locate the individual right now, but there is a Freeland in my family
lines from there in IL, just not sure if it is a Brown, White, Gillham, or Rice but since
Freeland appears to be a surname, it could represent a clue for both of us.
I am not certain where my Brown line originated here in the US but I do know that he had
brothers Griffin, Jehu, Daniel, David, and JOhn. I believe that their father was a Samuel
Brown who, with these other men just 'arrived in Union SC right before the Rev. War.
My Benjamin Brown was a Captain in that war and fought along with his brothers, the
Gillham men (12 of them) and Rev. John Wallace.
Has any menber of your Brown line taken the y-dna test?
I will be happy to add more if you see any names that are of interest or are in your line
of ancestors.
