Hi Lisa,
Thanks so much for this. Very interesting. I love the stories that go with the dates! I am
posting the articles about the dispute over Patrick Hopkins will here (below). I have one
more that I need to type out.
Julia Anne Hopkins Mattingly Hechinger is the daughter that Patrick had with his first
wife. Thomas is Patrick and Elizabeth's 2nd son,born in 1852. I don't know what
his story was. He left Logootee around the time of these lawsuits, which appear to have
been initiated by him. He was given less money than his brothers were and wasn't given
any land that I know of. I think my grandfather said they didn't hear from him again.
All I have in the notes from my grandfather are that he died in Everett Washington? No
date. No wife or children mentioned.
I also don't know what happened to Edward Hopkins.
Marie Cunningham appears in the 1900 census living with Patrick as granddaughter, Age 8.
If she is also in another household this is the same thing that happened with Julia
Hopkins in 1850. She appears in 2 different households -her fathers and her grandfathers.
Anyway,here are the newspaper articles:
