Message Board Post:
Dear ELL,
Thank you for your thorough investigation. You went out of your way to collect a lot of
information. I will look through it more thoroughly to see if there are any new leads.
I have been investigating this elusive couple for a few years so I have a lot of what you
sent.
A few facts for the record:
Frances Lux was the daughter born in Indiana. I have a copy of her death cert signed by
her daughter.
Charles John was their third child born in Ohio. This is a wonderful write up of his that
he sent. Unfortunatly he was so young when his parents died that he really did not know
much about them.
The children all went to other home and none of them see to have been related.
I have the original copy of the Samuel and Mary marriage record from Lawrenceberg, OH. It
reads that the license was obtained 21 Dec 1850, and the JP verified they were married on
25 Dec 1850.
A second cousin has the original copy of Mary's cemetery location. It refers to just
Mary. I also have a copy of the St. John cemetery record and it list "Mary w/o
Samuel".
Indiana doesn't seem to have any state or county records for births or deaths before
during the 1858-1863 period they were in Washington, Dearborn, IN. The on-line Daviess Co.
Health Dept says it has no records before 1882 for birth or deaths. If there are any
records for Washington, I would sure like to know...
FYI:
Benjamin Franklin Oyler b 29 Apr 1859 Washington, IN
Mary Francis Oyler b 07 Jul 1861 Washington, IN
Samuel Oyler d 1893
So that leaves me with the questions:
1. "Is Sam buried in Veale Cemetery and/or did his son Ben just erect a monument
there in later years when he had the money to buy it?"
2. Did they have a farm there for at least 5 years? I cannot seem to find any relatives
nearby. Did Sam die there and not in the civil war? I guess he could have just not
volunteered. Cannot find any obituary. Maybe Washington, IN has records???
3. Where did Mary Ann Hise (Haise?) come from in Ohio or Indiana? I find nothing on her
before they married. I find no Hises nearby.
Welcome to my brick wall.
Thank you again for all your research help.
