Looking for info and family connections to William Farren/Ferrin (various spellings), b.
btwn 1833-45 in Indiana. No info for parents or siblings, only a very few items of info
for early Ferran/Ferrin marriages in Daviess County, Indiana, where William lived btwn
1850-1880 (believe I've found him on the 1860 census for Daviess under the name
William Frncis, age 27).
William married Nancy Jane Smiley, b. abt 1841 IN, on 8 November 1860 in Daviess Co., IN.
Her parents were Jonathan Smiley, b. abt 1817 TN, and Keziah Clary, b. abt 1819 OH
(married 11 January 1838 in Daviess Co., IN). William and Nancy Jane had the following
children (all in Indiana):
Elizabeth, b. abt 1863, no info after the 1870 census
John, b. 13 December 1865, m. Cynthia Stewart in 1892, Daviess Co., IN
Josephine/Joanna, b. abt 1868, no info after the 1880 census**
James L., b. 14 April 1870, m. Savilla Catherine Shull in 1911, Daviess Co., IN
Kesia Charlotte (aka "Lottie" and "Lottie K."), b. 29 February 1872,
m. Charles Calton Watson in 1896, Daviess Co., IN
An additional son, Jefferson, is listed on 1870 and 1880 census records for the family
which indicates Jefferson was b. abt 1863-64 and was younger than Elizabeth. However, his
gravestone gives his birthdate as 29 February 1860.
** On the 1870 census, a 2 year old Josephine is listed in the household but no Joanna. In
1880, Joanna, age 11, is listed in the household but no Josephine. From the records found,
no determination can be made as to whether Josephine and Joanna are two separate children
born about the same time or not.
Have more info about descendants and would like to connect with relatives to compare notes
and try to find leads about what happened to William and Nancy after 1880 as well as find
leads to William's parents.
