Thank you for your response. You have hit the correct group.
In 1870 the household was:
Daviess Co, IN; Van Buren Twp; Raglesville PO
p 6, lines 32-37
Mahaley Franklin age 60 keeping house b Kentucky
Nancy age 25 b. Indiana
Mary E age 23 b. Indiana
Benjamin age 17 b. Indiana
Emma age 7 b. Indiana
Charles age 2 b. Indiana
It is possible that the Clay County marriage is the widowed or abandoned Nancy Franklin
James, but there was a James family in the area who may have also produced a Nancy.
I was hoping to turn up a potential James family in the Daviess Co. area. I have a
possible candidate from South Carolina - in Charleston in 1860 & 1870 (which could fit
with that father b. in Georgia in the 1880 census). I'm just not sure what a
Southerner would be doing in rural Indiana in 1865, unless I could prove he was maybe a
POW at the camp in Indianapolis.
Charles has been a toughie because of either deliberate obfuscation or extreme
misunderstanding.
