Mike, This is probably a big stretch, but could this family be part of your
Nolan family?
Thanks, Norma
Descendants of John Noland
Generation No. 1
1. JOHN1 NOLAND died December 14, 1842 in Daviess Co, IN.
I really don't have enough information to say.
My Daviess County ancestor, John Nowlan, (gg grandfather) came from New
Ross, County Wexford, Ireland after Jul 1850 and died in OCT 1851. I
suspect several of his 'brothers' were already in Daviess County,
Lawrence Noland married Elizabeth Patterson in 1844, James Noland
married Elizabeth J. Brewer in 1844, Robert Noland married Nancy Summers
in 1843, and Patrick Nolen married Cornelia Unknown before 1839. All
four of the Nolans(var) claim St. Mary's in New Ross as their parish in
Ireland. The reason I think they are brothers is that Lawrence, John
and Robert are all buried nearly next to each other in St. Peter's
Cemetery, Montgomery, Daviess, IN. Edward is another suspected brother,
also from St. Mary's Parish. He was in the household with Lawrence
during the 1850 census, and he married John's widow 31 DEC 1853 and
raised John's children. Patrick gets sucked into the family just
because he came from St. Mary's Parish. Researchers have always said
that James and Lawrence were brothers. James is tied to John through an
obituary for John's son Patrick Thomas Nolan. The obit said that Mark
Nolan, Patrick's cousin, and Mark's daughters Lydia and Agnes attended
the funeral. Mark is the son of James. You can see I have a bit of
circumstantial evidence that points to a family relationship among all
these Nolans(var).
Back to your John Noland, d 1842. Do you know where he came from and
when? Where is he buried? Who was his wife? I was not aware of
another Noland in the area until you identified him. Another part of
the puzzle to solve.
There is some good news. I found the marriage of Charlotte Noland to
John Rodenberry 11 MAR 1833 in Daviess Co, IN. It is listed in "Indiana
Marriages Through 1850"
