I hope "better late than never" applies for the roll call. Email is at work
and really busy with Y2K conversions.
I have hit a brick wall in searching for the parents of Isaac and Sarah
HEDDEN. I found an Isaac, Sarah, Americus and Sarah M. HEDDEN on the 1850
Bogard Twp, Daviess County, Indiana Census by Carol Schultz. It has Isaac
HEDDEN coming from NJ, but I haven't found where. There are many HEDDEN's
in New Jersey. It has Sarah from MD.
I have the death certificate for the son, Americus HEDDEN b. 1859 in Daviess
County, IN, d. 7 Jul 1926 in Washington, Daviess County, IN (son of Isaac
and my gggrandfather) that lists his mother as Sarah HAYWARD, but I have
discovered two marriage records in Indiana for an Isaac HEDDEN - one to
Sarah BRISTOL and one to Sarah LEONARD. No Sarah HAYWARD's. This one is
driving me crazy.
Also hoping that someone knows when/where his sister Sarah Matilda HEDDEN
Camp is buried so I can get a copy of her death certificate. Hoping it
might provide a clue as to which Sarah is their mother. Sarah Matilda
HEDDEN married Alexander E. CAMP and have been found on the 1860 Census for
Warrick County, IN. Have not found anything else on her. A friend from
Washington, IN went to Warrick County to find a death certificate for me
with no luck.
The other surnames of direct descendents in Daviess County are:
NASH (Mary)/McCAFFERTY / WARD (Mary Ellen) and
DIAL / McWILLIAMS (Melvina)/BARR. See below:
A cousin has extensive info on the McCAFFERTY line so I have slowed my
research on that line. I have not done any research yet on the WARD line.
On the DIAL family - Found extensive info in Clermont County, OH, but no
real proof that we do belong to that line. Thomas E. DIAL (ggrandfather) is
buried in Daviess County; his father John C. DIAL is buried in Warrick
County, IN. Found an article that John came from Clermont County, OH and
several of his brothers moved to Indiana with him.
Have not done much research yet on the McWILLIAMS line although Melvina
McWILLIAMS (b. 20 May 1860 Eby, IN d. 24 Feb 1923 Plainville) obit has her
with two half brothers - George B. McWILLIAMS of Washington, former county
treasurer and Charles McWILLIAMS of Plainville. Charles was married to a
Nettie May. I have a memorial booklet on her death. Her death certificate
has Father - James McWILLIAMS and Mother - Cinthia BARR. Melvina married my
grandfather Archie Marvin DIAL.
Indirect descendants I am researching in Daviess County are EDWARDS,
McCORMICK, and MILES. The EDWARD's and McCORMICK's married brothers and
sisters of my ggrandfather Henderson HEDDEN. Charles MILES married Basachie
DIAL (sister to my grandfather Archie Marvin DIAL). I found Basachie's great
grandson but he hasn't had time in the last year or so to go through his
mothers things to see if there is anything on the family.
If anyone can help on any of these lines, it will be muchly appreciated!!
