MRS. THOMAS DIES AT AGE OF 94 YEARS. AGED RESIDENT PASSES TUESDAY AT HOME IN BURNS CITY
AFTER LONG USEFUL LIFE.
Mrs. Mary THOMAS, one of the oldest residents in this section of the country passed away
at her home in Burns City last Tuesday her death being caused by general debility. She
was past ninety four years of age and her long and useful life had practically all been
lived within the community in which she died.
Mary WOODRUFF THOMAS was born east of Raglesville May 4, 1832. She was the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Moses WOODRUFF and grew to womanhood in the community in which she was born.
She was united in marriage to James RAGLE and to this union two sons were born both of
whom survive. These are Rev. John RAGLE of Spencer and Amos RAGLE of Elnora. The husband
passed away and she was again united in marriage to Dr. William J. THOMAS. To this union
four children were born all of whom survive. These are Mrs. John EATON and Mrs. Jonas
WINKLEPLECK of Burns City, Moses THOMAS of Indianapolis and William THOMAS of Plainville.
Mrs. THOMAS also leaves two sisters. These are Mrs. Betsy BOWMAN of Rocky Ford, Colorado
and Mrs. Candace DYE of near Shoals.
When a young woman Mrs. THOMAS united with the church and lived a faithful Christian life.
She was a member of the Christian church at Burns City at the time of her death and
worked with that body as long as her health permitted.
The funeral services were held Thursday at the Christian church at Burns City with Rev. C.
H. Buchanan in charge. Burial was made in the cemetery at that place."
