Hello! There were also all the members of my HARRIS family that made this
same trek from Tuscarawas County to Daviess, Greene, Morgan, Owen,
Counties, etc. My HARRIS family was very connected to the WINKLEPLECK
family both in written documents and old PIX as friends from Germany.
Many of these families (like mine), were of GERMAN origin and as we all
know, Germanic roots, geography that reminded them of home, the
availability of more space, etc., etc., all contributed to this "trek"!
In the case of my family, my GGrandfather (the trekker) came with his
family but the primary reason was that he by then was a master carpenter
from the old German school, and wanted an opportunity to ply his craft
among the hardwoods of Indiana. It must have worked, because he ended up
owning a hotel in Odon (Clark's Prairie) and a lot of land around and in
Odon before his ultimate move here to Indianapolis where in 1900 he built
a $500,000 house (in 2005 $). Our German family was very Germanically
clannish, and where one worked, went to church and school and fdid their
best to find the American way, you found other German families that
through the course of 2 or 3 generations traveled together from
Pennsylvania to Ohio to Indiana and beyond. In our case, where the HARRIS
family went, so did the WINKLEPLECKS and where the WINKLEPLECKS went, so
did we. Hope this helps some.

I have no idea why the migration.
We have many families including Kinnaman and Winklepleck from the
Coshocton Co
and Tuscarawas Co OH area to both Greene and Daviess Cos IN.
Some others of our direct lines are:
Fesler, Heshelman, Taylor, McWherter, Freed, and many others.
That area of Ohio is hilly, especially Coshocton Co, and so perhaps
not as good
farm land as Daviess and Greene.
These folks seemed to have a wanderlust and perhaps Ohio was getting
too "crowded" for them and the children were always searching for
cheaper,
better land.
